What are the standard bed sizes? What are the mattress bed sizes?

The standard mattress sizes are the same bed sizes, as below. 

The typical UK divan bed sizes and their measurements are:

  • Small single: 2’6” x 6’3” / 75 cm x 190 cm
  • Single: 3’0 x 6’3 / 90 cm x 190 cm
  • Small double (queen size): 4’0 x 6’3 / 120 cm x 190 cm
  • Double: 4’6 x 6’3 / 135 cm x 190 cm
  • King size: 5’0 x 6’6 / 150 cm x 200 cm
  • Super king size: 6’0 x 6’6 / 180 cm x 200 cm

 

Bedstead sizes

Are bedstead sizes the same as divan bed sizes? No, standard bedsteads are normally slightly wider (up to 5 cm wider than divans).

 

What bed size should you choose?

As a rule of thumb, the minimum length of the bed should be at least 10 cm longer than the height of the tallest person sleeping in it. Regarding the width, it depends on the body type of the sleeper. For couples the minimum width allowing good sleep without disturbing the partner too much is 135 cm, but wider would be more comfortable. 

What size is the biggest bed you can buy?

The largest  bed size in the UK is Emperor, 215 cm x 215cm / 7ft x 7ft

Is a queen bed smaller than a double UK?

Yes, a queen size bed is smaller than a double bed. 

What is an RV mattress?

No, IKEA beds are longer than traditional UK sizes. Most IKEA beds are 200 cm long, while a standard UK bed length is 190 cm.
